He said some are reservists in the Israeli army, while others are making the trip completely voluntarily.“It was quite surprising to me, actually, to find out the news that we had young men and women that are in our community that just felt the need — one of them called it the raw need — to just pick up and find their way to Israel," Siderson said. "It makes the emotions so much higher, so much more personal, when we know the people in our community who are no longer here because they are there risking their lives to protect the country.” Americans in Nazareth barely cross into Jordan after Hamas attack Siderson said all seven of them are in their 20s and said some are leaving behind families in Colorado to go help.“They have jobs here, th...Impostor charity scams target Israel donations

Volunteers in North Miami Beach packed, organized and loaded boxes full of supplies onto trucks on Tuesday that will be sent over to Israel immediately. “The community just mobilized itself in a way that is just incredible,” said Rabbi Ariel Yeshurun of Sky Lake Synagogue. Many people there who said they were born in Israel or still had family there, showed up at the aid center wanting to volunteer or bring donations, saying it was the least they could do.“The people coming in with packages, they’re bringing clothes, new stuff, blankets, bringing in batteries, bringing in all kinds of items,” said Avi Narkes, a volunteer. Yeshurun said they sent out a flyer on Monday night, asking for donations and people came together in less than 24 hours.“We are in touch with Israel, with the military, with the government,” said the Rabbi. “And as the needs are there, we will try to supply those needs and fill that void.”If things were differen...Israel Solidarity Rally held at Holocaust Museum in Miami Beach

Large crowds gathered in Miami Beach at the Holocaust Memorial to show their support for Israel. The crowd was large and their hearts were full.It was a rare Tuesday night as the crowd of all ages stood shoulder to shoulder to sing, cry, pray and listen.Their messages were strong and held high as they were displayed near the giant Holocaust memorial hand that represents so much suffering. The most recent suffering is why the Israel Solidarity Rally was held.“I think it’s very important that we as American stand up for democracy here and Israel and anywhere in the world that democracy exists and oppose the forces that would destroy us,” said a supporter. “We are here to support them anyway we can,” said a supporter. As people came to the event, they filed into the heavily secured event that was under the watchful eye of multiple officers who were at the scene, when they heard familiar voices that spoke in support of Israel.“It was an attack that is...Miami-Dade parents of young Israeli soldier send off son to fight in war

When reports of kidnapped women and murdered children began pouring in Saturday from the massive Hamas attack on Israel, the response in Washington was to convene the “Gang of Eight.” Those are the eight key congressional leaders charged with overseeing military intelligence, and they are usually the first people briefed in such a crisis.Only thanks to House Democrats, it is now the gang of seven. The speaker’s chair is empty, vacated by a vote of all 208 members of the House Democratic Caucus in support of Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Florida, and seven fringe MAGA Republicans.Unlike a typical leadership battle, Democrats weren’t backing an alternative candidate to take control. They didn’t even offer a leadership plan. Their only goal was to create chaos and promote GOP infighting while shutting down the House. The Democrats’ plan worked. There is plenty of chaos in Washington today.Unfortunately, there is far worse in Israel, and thanks to the Democrats’ success, a leaderless Congress is po...Boston Asian American Film Festival returns with something extra
