Men accused of killing security guard in Oakland plead not guilty

DUBLIN, Calif. (KRON) -- Two of three men charged with killing security guard Kevin Nishita entered pleas of not guilty in court Wednesday morning. Shadihia Mitchell and Hershel Hale were arrested last year, accused of killing Nishita in downtown Oakland while he was guarding a KRON4 News reporter in Nov. 2021.Mitchell and Hale face multiple charges, including first-degree murder. Defense attorneys for the two men say their client did not pull the trigger. ADAMS COUNTY, Colo. (KDVR) — An overnight fire in Adams County was allegedly started by a burglar, said the Adams County Sheriff's Office.Adams County Fire tweeted about the blaze just before 3 a.m. It happened at a single-family home east of Federal Boulevard in the 2600 block of 80th Avenue.According to the sheriff's office, deputies were initially called to the home for a burglary. The suspect entered the home and started the fire, according to deputies. Second person dies after house fire near Fort Collins Those living inside the home were able to get out before the fire started. DENVER (KDVR) — Aurora police are searching for a suspect in a shooting that sent one man to the hospital.The Aurora Police Department tweeted about the shooting just after noon on Wednesday when officers were called to the 15000 block of East 14th Place near the Chambers Plaza shopping mall.A man was taken to a local hospital with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. (KDVR) -- Locals are being warned after a mysterious illness is causing an unusually high amount of cats around Brighton to fall sick or die.This outbreak comes right after the respiratory disease found in dogs across Colorado. (KDVR) — A pedestrian was critically injured in a crash in Boulder Wednesday morning.The Boulder Police Department tweeted about the crash just after 10 a.m.A driver allegedly hit a pedestrian in the 1200 block of Alpine Avenue near Broadway in the Old North Boulder neighborhood. The suspect, who is accused of shooting a Sunrise police officer on Tuesday, appeared before a judge Wednesday morning. 31-year-old Romuliss Hicks was reportedly wanted for shooting his girlfriend who’s the mother of his child and stealing her car on Saturday. Sunrise police believe they found Hicks in Fort Lauderdale and that he fired at one of their detectives and the suspect wound up shot too.The South Florida officer underwent surgery after an encounter while on duty. The detective was shot while trying to arrest Hicks.The officer was rushed to Broward Health Medical Center via ground transport with a gunshot wound to their leg while Hicks was also transported to an area hospital from injuries.The officers, brothers and sisters in blue, gathered at the hospital to check on their colleague on Tuesday. Rescue crews Wednesday afternoon quickly responded to a fire at a mansion owned by Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill in Southwest Ranches.Davie Fire Rescue arrived at the home, located at 16755 Berkshire. 7Skyforce hovered over the scene, where black smoke billowed from the mansion’s roof. Firefighters were also seen roof as they searched for the source of the fire. According to 7News Sport’s reporter Josh Moser, Hill was notified about the fire and left team practice in Miami Gardens to deal with situation.Nobody was inside the home when the fire broke out. The fire was upgraded to a 2-alarm fire. More firefighters arrived at the scene and were able to knock down the fire. They are now searching the rest of the property to put out any potential hotspots. According to property records, the mansion was bought in 2022 for $6.9 million. No injuries were reported.
