KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw showed some progress while playing catch before Sunday’s game against the Kansas City Royals, but Los Angeles manager Dave Roberts remains uncertain whether the three-time Cy Young winner will make his next start. In fact, Roberts said that Kershaw could start Monday against Pittsburgh, push his start back a couple of days or even go on the injured list with some tenderness in his shoulder that he first felt after last week’s outing against Colorado.“I just don’t want to say right now,” Roberts said after watching Kershaw’s session in the Kauffman Stadium outfield. “He hasn’t thrown a bullpen, he didn’t spin the baseball, but there was progress. He felt better. So that was encouraging.”Kershaw carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning against the Rockies last Tuesday before leaving the game after 79 pitches, having allowed just one hit in the eventual 5-0 win. But the 35-year-old left-hander said ...England regards Bairstow dismissal as against ‘the spirit’ of cricket; Australia says it’s fair play

LONDON (AP) — England coach Brendon McCullum and captain Ben Stokes believed Australia broke “the spirit” of the laws of cricket in the Jonny Bairstow dismissal at Lord’s on Sunday.McCullum and Stokes agreed Bairstow was out, technically, but Stokes would have backtracked on appealing for out.“Do I want to win in that manner?” Stokes posed. “The answer for me is no.”Bairstow was stumped when he ducked a bouncer and immediately left his crease to meet Stokes in the middle. England say he believed the umpires called, ‘Over,’ meaning the ball was dead. Australia wicketkeeper Alex Carey tossed down the stumps and Bairstow was given out for 10 after a brief review.Bairstow was confused, initially, then obviously unhappy by the stumping. He left Stokes as the last recognized batter. England lost by 43 runs and went down 2-0 in the five-match series.Australia had to endure the crowd’s bitterness for the rest of the match, and McCullum felt the visitors brought it upon themselve...Marlins add fresh arm to bullpen by recalling right-hander Lindgren from Triple-A Jacksonville

PILTON, England (AP) — Brittney Denise Parks, better known as Sudan Archives, is an avant-garde violinist and singer-songwriter who describes her style as “fiddle soft punk.” Last week, she made her debut at the Glastonbury Festival in the U.K. After a shaky start, the packed crowd danced around in the afternoon sun as she rapped and played the violin in a corset of red leather belts and buckles, cowboy boots, violin bow strapped to her back like Robin Hood.“At first my mic wasn’t working, so the crowd was like, We can’t hear you. and I was like, Really? They’re like, No! So then once we figured that out, then it was amazing!” she told The Associated Press backstage. Now based in Los Angeles, Sudan Archives taught herself the violin as a child in Ohio. She’s been making waves with her exploration of non-Western string traditions, unconventional pop and R&B melodies as well as rap inspired by her collaborator and boyfriend, Nocando. AUSTIN (KXAN) – Hopping into a car on a hot summer day can rattle even the most unflappable among us. While undoubtedly uncomfortable, it can also be dangerous too. On warm days, cars can quickly heat to deadly levels, even with the windows partially down. For parents wanting to reduce heat levels so kids don’t burn themselves on car seats, meteorologist Kristen Currie with Nexstar's KXAN shared a few tips. White towelDrape a white towel over darker-colored seats or car seats to keep them a little cooler, as black absorbs the most heat of any color. ‘Extreme threat’: Large swathe of southern US at dangerous ‘wet bulb temperature’ The towel can also prevent the seat buckle from heating up and burning you or your child. (NerdWallet) - The typical cost of renting a car in the U.S. has increased 48% since May 2019, according to the latest data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). In other words, a car that cost $100 per day four years ago would now cost $148 per day.Believe it or not, prices have dropped recently, with year-over-year costs falling 12%, according to BLS data. But that drop has done little to undo the sky-high prices that emerged during the pandemic.“The traditional car rental industry had to trim down their supply significantly during COVID,” says Albert Mangahas, chief data officer at Turo, a car-sharing platform. “This led to a rental car crunch when all the rental car demand came back.”Flights are 5% more expensive than they were in May 2019, and hotels are up 15% over the same period, according to the May 2023 BLS report. These prices are somewhat higher, but nothing like the 48% increase in rental car prices. Why have these prices remained so stubbornly high?» Learn more: 10...ROK, once a Nordic-Japanese eatery turned taco bar, is now a music venue and cocktail lounge

ROK, located in the Schmidt Brewing Rathskeller on West Seventh, is reinventing itself once again — this time, as a music venue and cocktail bar.It opened in 2021 as a Nordic- and Japanese-inspired fine dining restaurant. Earlier this year, citing food costs and uncertainty surrounding its lease, the eatery pivoted to a taco concept. Now, owner Travis Wycislak said, they’re done with food altogether. Chef Adam Prince has rejiggered the cocktail menu, and Wycislak has booked a slate of music acts including local musicians Corizine and Bobby Rethwish. The change is perhaps not as sudden as it seems: The two men met at a concert about six years ago and music has always been a shared passion, Wycislak said. They’ve long talked about running a music venue, he said, and have occasionally booked musicians to perform after dinner service.“It felt like a natural conceptual pivot that was already there, that was already being enjoyed,” he said. “Just with the space that we have here, it feels l...Latest news
